The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care is working on updating the National Consensus Statement: Essential elements for safe and high-quality end-of-life care, and would like your feedback. You can review the draft Statement and share your feedback through a short online survey here until 14 January 2023.
What is the Consensus Statement?
The Consensus Statement sets out suggested practices when providing end-of-life care in all relevant healthcare settings. First released in 2015, the Consensus Statement reflects the views of health consumers, carers, healthcare experts and the Commission.
Why do your views matter?
The updated Consensus Statement broadens the scope beyond hospitals, where more than half of Australians will die. It now includes Primary and Community Health Care and residential aged care settings to ensure everyone receives high-quality end-of-life care in every health setting.
Another change is the added requirement to provide bereavement support to carers and families. The updated Consensus Statement intends to reflect both a current and future view on end-of-life care and reflect the views of the Australian community.
